Next to the outside kitchen is a one-bedroom, one-bath casita where the husband works. ![]() “The creamy light perimeter countertops juxtapose the blues, grays and browns in the quartzite on our island, which was the inspiration for the gray-blue in our cream and gray-blue, handmade hex backsplash,” Soechtig said.Ī round dining table with Adriana Hoyos side chairs sits at the end of the kitchen, leading to the backyard. To the left of the Kohler sink are stacked Fisher & Paykel dishwasher drawers. For the island, Soechtig went with Blue Ocean Satin quartzite. For the perimeter countertops, she selected Bianca Honed quartzite from Tutto Marmo with Tabarka Studio’s handmade, 5-inch Zaha terracotta hexagonal tiles in a custom color as the backsplash. Soechtig found a much slimmer Zephyr hood to go above the massive 48-inch Wolf dual-fuel, six-burner with griddle oven. In one, the family keeps a larger toaster oven that sits on a pull-out drawer. Because the couple prefer an uncluttered look, Soechtig designed two spaces in that wall of cabinetry for small appliances, with doors that pull up and back under the top of each cabinet. The cabinets, she pointed out, were all inset so none of the hinges were visible.īuilt into the wall of honey-toned cabinets are a panel-ready Subzero refrigerator and freezer and a Sharp microwave. She used honey-colored wood tones on the custom alder cabinets against one wall and a warm cream tone on the top cabinets on the adjoining wall and the island. Soechtig’s approach was to transform the space into something more light, bright and welcoming. Combined with a nearby peninsula, it made moving around the kitchen easily a challenge. The kitchen was also an issue, with a large stove hood that dominated the space. The previous owners had updated them with 24-inch-by-12-inch faux Carrera marble that didn’t go with the style of the house. Originally, said Soechtig, the couple just wanted to update the bathrooms to bring them more in line with the look of the four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom house. The family had moved into the Tuscan-style home in 2019 from another, smaller house in Santaluz. This was the third house she had worked on for them. That was the goal when Rebecca Soechtig, principal designer, of REDinterior designed the space for the new homeowners, a couple in their 40s and their 15-year-old son. Instead, it can be calming and comforting - a respite, even in a house of such huge scale.
